As a consequence of events in the past few years, people are more polarised and divided than ever. Fear, confusion, and the feeling of having lost some control over our lives have pulled us apart and made many of us feel isolated.
Bringing people together, fostering acts of solidarity, mutual support and community cohesion can remind us of our true nature. We are a social species and we are at our best when we debate and practice the aspects of unity that make us flourish as a group.
Actively fostering unity is what we need to start healing in our communities. We are fortunate that there are so many effective and imaginative resources in Cumbria which we can call on to promote unity. Among our CUF group and partners there’s a wealth of experience both in providing services all year round and in coming together creatively to offer the Cumbria Unity Festival.
We’re proud of our Unity Festival journey: how the CUF has grown from a local event in Carlisle in 2016, then in Kendal, then online in 2020 and 2021 in three locations including Barrow-in-Furness.
We’re thrilled that for 2022 we can include a fourth location, offering the West Cumbria Unity Festival based in Whitehaven.
In every place we’re building on what proactive people are doing locally in the community.
