Kendal Unity Festival Saturday 26 July 2025

Our popular, free family festival will be taking place 26 July. The Town Hall will play host to arts, activities, a cafe, exhibitions, tours, and more.

The festival is designed to bring people together to celebrate diversity and create connections and understanding between people.  It is an initiative of Cumbrian organisation AWAZ.

Several Kendal schools have taken part in a ‘Hands Up for Unity’ collaborative art project.  Based on the theme ‘So powerful is the light of Unity that it can illuminate the whole earth’  they have created fabulously colourful bunting that will decorate the Town Hall from top to bottom for the day.

It all kicks off at 10am.  When you can have a go at building a lego monster, get a henna tattoo or take a fun photo in the Unity photo frame.  Join a mindfulness session, a poetry writing workshop, and a language cafe.  Have a go at being a DJ with Kendal Youth Zone.  Get your face painted and your name written in Arabic calligraphy.

Get a copy of the new recipe book “World On A Plate’ that Manna House is launching and fill up at the Waste into Wellbeing ‘People’s Cafe.’ But leave room a cup cake.

It’s a great day out but there is also a bit more of a serious side to things with ‘Bystander’ training on offer to help people think about how they could respond positively to sensitive situations.  The immersive 'Escape to Safety’ exhibition is powerfully evocative and those that take the ‘journey’ are invited to visit a reflective space afterwards.  A chance to take the ‘Slave Trail’ tour around Kendal and visit the Mayors parlour are also on offer.

“The Kendal unity Festival is free, family fun and we want as many people as possible to enjoy it.” Said Cllr Guy Tirvengadum and one of the founders of the festival.  “There are too many ways in which people are divided and we see the tragic results of that.  This is a chance to celebrate the power of unity to break down barriers and build bonds of friendship.”
