ROOTS TO KENDAL

Created especially for the Kendal Unity Festival 2022, Roots to Kendal is the collaborative effort of Community Artist, Donna Campbell, Manna House Chief Officer, Andrea Aldridge, and some of the Manna House community who have a story they are willing to share. Wherever, whenever we started, however whenever we got here, we all have at least one thing in common for certain - we are all right here right now in Kendal.

HIDDEN STORIES

Hidden Stories is a heritage project that gathers, shares and celebrates the story of migration in Cumbria – the coming and going of people, past and present that shapes Cumbria’s identity. Because everyone comes from somewhere.

Oral histories are important because they give us a unique glimpse into the way we make sense of our experience. In its broadest sense, Hidden Stories is about exploring what connects us and how we see ourselves and our identity as Cumbrians.

In the exhibition, on loan from Cumbria Development Education Centre (CDEC), you will be able to listen to audio clips of contemporary migration stories that CDEC collected and recorded in 2017.

HEALTHY FOREST – HEALTHY COMMUNITY

This exhibition has been specifically created for the Kendal Unity Festival by local artist Clare Jepson and it will take you on a journey through the intricate connections that trees form with each other, the mutual support they give and the way a group of trees that look like isolated individuals on the surface, actually grows as a Forest. Take the opportunity to experience it for yourself and reflect on the ways in which we can create a community that mirrors the same structure of a healthy, supportive forest.
